about
I am an artist based in Chicago with roots in San Jose, CA. My painting practice began in 2020 as a means to contemplate the condition of being a person in this beautiful and absurd modern world. In creating artwork, I arrive at my own subjectivity – one that is desiring, agentic, and awake to the world.
My work features lots of declarative colors, strong contrast, and odd text overlays. The layering of multiple mediums enables me to hold contradictions and complexities, which helps me both accept and recreate myself and the contexts I inhabit.
I received my B.A. in Comparative Human Development from the University of Chicago, where I focused on medical anthropology and disordered eating. My academic background and experience as an athlete, as well as my identity as a second-generation Chinese-American woman lay the backdrop of all my work. The topics I am exploring in my current pieces include the pleasure and perils of desire, Asian-American consciousness, and the feelings of a young person living and working within late capitalism.
